Lewa Conservancy

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, located in northern Kenya, is a pioneering model of community-based conservation and sustainable wildlife management. Spanning over 62,000 acres (25,000 hectares) of pristine wilderness, Lewa is renowned for its commitment to wildlife conservation, community development, and ecotourism.

Established in 1983 as a wildlife sanctuary, Lewa has since evolved into a world-class conservation area, home to a diverse array of wildlife species

Lewa’s success in wildlife conservation can be attributed to its innovative conservation strategies, including anti-poaching initiatives, habitat restoration programs, and community outreach projects.

By working closely with local communities, Lewa has fostered a sense of ownership and stewardship among residents, empowering them to become active participants in conservation efforts.

In addition to its conservation efforts, Lewa is recognized for its sustainable tourism practices, with eco-friendly lodges and camps offering luxurious accommodations amidst the breathtaking scenery.

Proceeds from tourism directly support the conservancy’s conservation and community development initiatives, ensuring that Lewa remains a beacon of hope for wildlife and people alike.
