Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Crater is a breathtaking natural wonder located in Tanzania, East Africa. It’s actually the world’s largest unbroken caldera, formed by the collapse of a volcano about two to three million years ago. The crater spans roughly 260 square kilometers and is home to a remarkably diverse ecosystem, earning it the nickname “Africa’s Garden of Eden.”
Within the crater, you’ll find grasslands, swamps, forests, and a soda lake, all of which support a wide array of wildlife. The Ngorongoro crater is home to nearly 30,000 animals, including lions, elephants, buffalo, rhinos, and numerous species of antelope. It’s also one of the best places in Africa to spot the endangered black rhinoceros.
