Sasaab Lodge

The architecture of Sasaab Lodge, which is perched on the brink of a river valley, combines Swahili and Moroccan design principles with a particular focus on the African heat. Each of the nine rooms, which have canvas sides and are over 100m2 in size, has a private plunge pool with breathtaking views of the Laikipia Plateau and Mount Kenya’s craggy peaks. Its location above the river makes it easy to observe the elephant herds that gather below to take baths as well as a variety of other species.

Sasaab Lodge

In Samburu, Sasaab Lodge is a magnificent luxury tented camp that provides the top safari experience. The Northern Frontier District of Kenya is home to the Samburu National Reserve, as well as mountains, animals, and a vibrant cultural history. The ‘Samburu Special Five’—five species specific to the region—include the Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Gerenuk antelope, and Somali ostrich—as well as elephants, cheetahs, wild dogs, and an incredible variety of other creatures.

Experience the spectacular elephant herds for which Samburu National Reserve is famed while eating cook-out bush breakfasts there. The top of “sundowner rock,” a lovely spot where you can watch the sun go low and reflect on your safari sightings of the day, is a great place to soak in the amazing surroundings and learn about the diverse birds.

You could get a glimpse of a caravan of camels moving through the forest if you keep an eye out for the tinkling of bells as you approach the resort, regardless of how you arrive at Sasaab’s airstrip—whether by plane or by automobile. Samburu herders are frequently seen at Westgate Conservancy guiding their animals through the undergrowth.

A safari in Samburu offers many intriguing insights into this distinctive culture, and this is only one of them.

Our upscale tent camp takes great pride in its outstanding service, and our helpful staff works hard to make each visitor’s stay memorable. Sasaab Lodge can be reserved directly via Luxe Africa Safaris, through your neighborhood tour operator, or as part of a custom safari itinerary we can design particularly for you.

From exploring the bush on foot, camel, or quadbike to fly-camping beneath the stars and incredible helicopter adventures in Kenya’s far north, Sasaab Lodge provides a fantastic selection of thrilling activities for everyone. For those looking for a slower safari experience while others are out exploring, a gorgeous infinity pool and spa area provide tranquil locations in which to rest against a backdrop of nature.

The ideal place to begin exploring Kenya’s undeveloped, distant north is Sasaab Lodge. You get access to some of Kenya’s wildest and most breathtaking geographical elements, as well as our private pilot and helicopter. Fly over the stunning rocky gorges of the Suguta Valley, fly over Lake Logipi with flamingos, land on wide dunes in the desert, or ascend a holy Samburu mountain for a breakfast with breathtaking views.

With the indigenous Samburu people residing in Westgate Conservancy, Sasaab Lodge has a special relationship. By assisting local people to directly profit from tourism, our opulent tented camp aims to develop a community tourism initiative that will aid in safeguarding this breathtaking region and its species for future generations. As a result, it is feasible to visit a nearby Samburu community as well as some of the other health and education initiatives we fund nearby.
